Current Events

"The New St. Louis Layout"

The new St. Louis layout is shown in the drawing below.   At one end is a re-creation of Placerville, Colorado on the Rio Grande Southern RR, and the other end is a model of Pagosa Junction, Colorado (also known as Gato) on the Denver and Rio Grande Western RR.   Connecting the two scenes is a re-creation of Lake Junction, Colorado (also on the D&RGW), plus some freelanced scenes which are typical of western mining districts.

The new layout has many improvements compared to our old layout, primarily to reduce weight, to speed set-up and to reduce maintenance.   The layout operates on DCC with sound-equipped locomotives.

The three tables that make up the Placerville scene, featuring the town of Placerville, the industries of Old Placerville, and the Leopard Creek bridge, are completed and were displayed at the 30th National Narrow Gauge Convention in St. Louis.

The construction of the new St. Louis layout is still in progress, but all nine tables were displayed at the 34th National Narrow Gauge Convention in Kansas CIty, Missouri, with at least basic scenery.   Additional scenery and detailing remains to be completed as well as the building and installation of several structures.

Significant activity is also occurring in Chicago, Illinois and Payson, Arizona.

In Chicago, a re-creation of John Allen's well known Time Saver Puzzle is operational with basic scenery.   Several structures remain to be added.   These tables were displayed at the 30th and the 34th National Narrow Gauge Conventions.

In Payson, some of the original tables dating back to the 1980's are still operating.   A few tables were built in Payson using the old standards.   Some of these tables were displayed at the 30th National Narrow Gauge Convention.   Several new tables have recently been constructed.   Most of these new tables are built according to the new standards.   All the tables from Payson are capable of operating with DCC.   Thirteen tables from Payson were displayed at the 34th National Narrow Gauge Convention.
